Institute for Thermofluid Dynamics

Profile Projects Publications Team Student research Facilities
Flow laboratory

The ITFD's flow laboratory is equipped with several wind tunnels and test benches as well as modern measurement technology. Current investigations include, for example, boundary layer flows with heat transfer or the determination of lift, drag and moment coefficients of aerofoil profiles. learn more >

Thermophysical laboratory

The thermophysical laboratory is equipped with test rigs for determining the anisotropic thermal conductivity and heat capacity of solids and liquids as well as test rigs for characterizing radiant heat exchange. In addition, equilibrium isotherms of adsorbents can be measured and diffusion in porous solids can be determined. learn more >

Computational Fluid Dynamics

The ITFD develops specialized software and new models for the calculation of complex flow phenomena. In addition, open-source and commercial program packages are used. The institute has a computing cluster with more than 1500 computing cores for sophisticated calculations and the pre- and post-processing of large-eddy simulations (LES) and direct numerical simulations (DNS). learn more >

Hot film and hot wire measurement technology

The ITFD develops and produces flexible hot filament arrays and multiple hot wire probes as well as the associated constant temperature circuit technology, which is designed for a high number of channels. learn more >
