Alumni... What does that mean?
The term alumni comes from Latin. Alumnus (m; pl.:-i) or alumna (f.; pl.:-ae) stands for "pupil" or literally "the nourished one". Originally, it was used to refer to pupils of a boarding school, a so-called alumnat. Today, the term stands for the alumni of a university - or, in a broader sense, for all persons associated with the university.
Alumni work has a long tradition in the English-speaking world. In this country, the idea of strengthening alumni ties to their alma mater through professional relationship management has only become established in recent years.
