Center for Equal Opportunities

About us

Equality and equal opportunities

The Center for Equal Opportunities (CfC) is the contact point for all issues related to equal opportunities for women and men. The Equal Opportunities Officer supports the university in eliminating existing disadvantages for academically active women and female students; the interests of employees in administration and technology are represented by the Equal Opportunities Officer.

According to the State Higher Education Act, the university has the task of taking into account the diversity of its members and university staff and of actually implementing equal opportunities for women and men. All university members should be able to participate equally in university life, regardless of sex, gender, origin and marital status.

What we do

The Equal Opportunities Officer of the HKA and her team support the university in the task of actually implementing equal opportunities for women and men in all areas of academic life. This includes, among other things, the further development of the university's family-friendliness, the support of appointment committees and job advertisements, the promotion of female students through a variety of offers as well as the strengthening of the togetherness of all university members.
Equality is supported by the Commission for Fair Chances (KfC).

Commission for Fair Chances

The Commission for Fair Chances (KfC), as the Equal Opportunities Commission, is an advisory Senate committee to support the Equal Opportunities Officers.
It deals with current equality policy issues. The members of the commission are contact persons when it comes to bringing issues of fairness and equal opportunities to the attention of the individual faculties and institutions. They are involved in the conception of measures for equal opportunities, equality and the compatibility of family and career or studies, as well as in raising awareness of equality issues. The members of the commission are also the first point of contact when it comes to finding a representative for an appointment committee.

The BMBF programme CyberMentor, in which some of our female students are actively involved, was developed especially for female high school students interested in STEM subjects.

It promotes female students through a variety of offers and advice for female start-ups:

We are contact persons for female students seeking advice on problems related to their gender. But we also encourage female students to look at their gender role and adjust to possible obstacles on their career path. At the suggestion of female students, we develop seminar series and offer workshops. Some examples are: Hardware course "The inner workings of my PC", Self-assertion and self-defence course "Defensive women", "Safety on the net" etc.. We are also always open to new suggestions.
We also inform the female students about numerous equality measures of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts through notices and e-mail. As a result, some of our female students actively participate in the BMBF programme Cybermentor, in the Informatica Feminale and in the Meccanica Feminale of the Netwerk F.I.T.. Furthermore, we arrange counselling for women entrepreneurs, see Online course for women entrepreneurs as well as www.sturado.de/ratgeber-finanzierung-unternehmensgruendung-frauen.

It is dedicated to the concerns of female academics

Through the internet, we inform female academics nationwide about job offers at the HKA in an effort to increase the proportion of women in academic staff.
To this end, we post advertisements in the database of the Landeskonferenz der Gleichstellungsbeauftragten an Fachhochschulen in Baden-Württemberg (LaKof), among others.
We organise events (further education, coaching, etc...) and draw attention to events, especially those of LaKof (Landeskonferenz der Gleichstellungsbeauftragten in Baden-Württemberg). To the LaKof events
