Institute for Thermofluid Dynamics

Profile

The Institute for Thermofluid Dynamics works in three research groups on issues relating to thermofluid dynamics and efficient energy conversion, process and plant safety and aeronautical engineering. The topics range from fundamental research on boundary layer flows and transonic, reacting multiphase flows to the development of flow measurement technology and simulation software, all the way to application-oriented projects in the field of efficient energy conversion.

The institute has several laboratories with various wind tunnels, modern flow measurement technology, facilities for determining the equilibrium and kinetic properties of porous adsorbents, as well as self-developed measurement methods for determining the thermal conductivity of anisotropic and inhomogeneous materials. In addition, the institute has access to a computing cluster with more than 1500 computing cores.
