Our responsibility for science and teaching

Since 2005, the "Verbund der Stifter" (Donors' Alliance) foundation has supported outstanding projects and activities at HKA that cannot be financed by the faculties themselves. We primarily support initiatives that strengthen the university's approach to becoming an emission-free campus and that promote its ecological orientation, as well as innovative projects that develop solutions to the challenges facing our society. The integration of foreign students also plays an important role in this.

The "Verbund der Stifter an der Hochschule Karlsruhe – Technik und Wirtschaft" is a foundation under civil law. Ambitious benefactors and interested donors thus can support HKA financially or in kind so that the university will continue to be an outstanding, modern, and competitive educational and scientific institution. We invite you to actively shape the performance of the university!

Support for your project

Applying for support

Do you have a special idea or a major project that you believe in? You lack the financial means to carry it out? Apply for funding from our Donors' Alliance!

The "Verbund der Stifter" supports HKA in all areas that sustainably promote the university and that are covered by the purpose of the foundation. The board of the foundation decides whether and how much of its funds can be distributed in the current year. The Senior Management then informs the deans and the Equal Opportunity Officers about the available funds and launches a call for proposals to be submitted. This is where you play an important role!

You must meet the following requirements in order to apply for funding:

  • You are a member of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences
  • Your project cannot be financed from university funds
  • The requested funding is limited in time

Once a year you can apply for a grant for your project after being invited by the deans. The advisory board of our foundation evaluates all applications and prepares a proposal how to allocate the foundation’s funds. After the foundation’s board has conferred on this we will inform you about the outcome.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Purpose of the foundation

Our purpose is to promote teaching, applied research, and further education, as well as support particularly talented students from Germany and abroad studying at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. In addition, we promote the further development of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences as a renowned European institution and the communication with the universities cooperating with HKA. In the context of applied research, the foundation supports institutions that sustainably increase the university's expertise.

Becoming a donor

Through the Donors' Allliance you can support Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences in various ways and thus actively participate in shaping teaching and research at HKA.

Endowment and donation

With a sub-foundation (also possible in the form of securities, stocks, or bonds) you increase the already existing endowment capital of our foundation and thus the annual income. In case of endowments of 10,000 euros or more it is possible to earmark the income from your endowment for specific projects or awards within the framework of the foundation's objectives. Sub-foundations of 50,000 euros or more can be associated with your name. Sub-foundations do not have to be of a financial nature. Contributions in kind – such as the provision of landed property for scholarship holders to stay or as student housing – also serve the purpose of the foundation.

With a donation, you support the work of the Donors' Alliance on a one-off basis. In this case, you can either make a donation linked to a specific purpose within the work of the foundation, or decide for it to be used at our discretion.

Joint project

Of course, it is also possible for you to join forces with other foundation partners within our foundation for a joint project. We will be happy to establish the appropriate contacts.

Will and estate

If you would like to support the university on a long-term and sustainable basis through the Donors' Alliance, you can also do so through your final will. There are various possibilities available, which can only be touched upon here. We will be happy to provide detailed advice with legally binding information on wills and inheritance.

The "Verbund der Stifter" can be appointed as heir or co-heir.

By means of a bequest in the will, the Donors' Alliance can be made a beneficiary without being appointed as heir or co-heir. In this way, certain assets (shares, bank balances, real estate, ...) can be transferred to the foundation for the benefit of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences.

The testator can determine which issues or projects of the university are to be supported, similar to donations or endowments. The decisive factor is that the "Verbund der Stifter", having been recognized as a non-profit organization since its founding more than ten years ago, does not have to pay any inheritance or gift tax, so that the transferred funds are available to Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences without any deductions.

Receipt of donation

You will receive a donation receipt for each endowment or donation, which certifies that the donation is tax deductible. The foundation is registered under the number StNr Az.: 35022/76132 at the Karlsruhe fiscal authorities and recognized as a non-profit organization. You can therefore be sure that the full amount of each of your donations will benefit the desired purpose.

Tax advantages

By means of extensive tax advantages, the legislator supports such private initiatives that serve the common good. If the foundation pursues scientific purposes, as is the case with the Donors' Alliance, the depreciation options are particularly high.

Projects supported in 2019/2020

In 2019/20, as every year, the Donors' Alliance supported numerous projects at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. Here is a small selection:

  • The multimedia lab of the Communication and Media Management degree program was expanded.
  • A 3D laser scanner was purchased for a cross-faculty reverse engineering lab
  • Digitization of technical-mechanical homework was promoted
