Teaching Award of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences

You can be awarded the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences Teaching Prize if you, as a professor at the HKA, have distinguished yourself to a particular degree through high-quality and innovative teaching. The teaching prize was awarded for the first time at the annual academic celebration in 2011 and has since been awarded annually in alternation with the research prize. In 2020, the prize was awarded for the first time for the outstanding implementation of concrete online teaching. It is endowed with € 5,000, which is to be used for the promotion of student interests at the university at the free discretion of the award winner.

Teaching Award 2020: Prof. Dr. Susanne Kruse

Prof. Dr. Susanne Kruse from the Faculty of Business and Economics was honored with the fourth internal teaching award of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences - Technology and Economics for her outstanding implementation of the compulsory module Mathematics B for Industrial Engineers as an online format during the New Year's Reception on January 13, 2021.

Special Award 2020: Prof. Dr. Markus Schwarz

The university honored Prof. Dr. Markus Schwarz from the Faculty of Business and Economics with the "Newcomer Award," a one-time special prize for newcomers to online teaching, for his implementation of the mandatory module "Foreign Trade for Industrial Engineers" as an online format.

Special Award 2020: Prof. Jürgen Walter

Prof. Jürgen Walter from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, who is taking well-deserved retirement after this winter semester, received the university's special award for his life's work in online teaching. Teaching Award 2018: Prof. Dr. Jürgen Weizenecker

Application procedure

All professors at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences can apply individually or as a group for a course they are teaching with online components. The student councils are asked to invite teachers to apply. In addition, the student councils can submit proposals. The Prorectorate for Teaching, Studies and International Affairs will then inform those suggested and invite them to apply.

As soon as the application period for the next teaching award of the HKA starts, all teachers will be informed by e-mail. Additionally, you will find application forms and deadlines on this page.

Selection procedure

For each application, a brief assessment is obtained from the relevant departmental council(s). In addition, a committee of reviewers with equal representation will be appointed, consisting of the following officers:

  • Prorector for Studies, Teaching and International Affairs
    Prof. Dr. Angelika Altmann-Dieses
  • Managing Director of the Office of the Study Commission for University Didactics (GHD)
    Prof. Hans-Peter Voss
  • Responsible for digitalization in teaching
    Martin Mandausch
  • 3 students(appointed by the AStA)

The commission of reviewers awards the teaching prize to one or more persons from the professoriate on the basis of the submitted application documents and the feedback from the student councils. The commission may consult other members of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences to support its work. The evaluation of the submissions is based on the Code of Good Online Teaching of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences.
