Perfect combination of theory and practice
The distinctive feature about studying at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is the high proportion of practical experience. Right from the beginning of your studies you will be involved in project work. During your basic studies already, you will learn to solder circuits and to work on other practical tasks independently in the laboratory. Your lecturers come to the university contributing extensive industrial experience and pass on their knowledge by a combination of lectures with laboratory exercises. You will gain your first professional experience in an industrial company during your internship semester, which is usually scheduled for the fifth semester. You will work on engineering tasks and apply the knowledge from your studies. Here you will learn about work processes that are very similar to your future engineering work. After the internship semester, you will prepare a report and give a presentation on your work.
You will also complete your Bachelor's thesis in an industrial company and, in many cases, get the opportunity to be taken on directly.
Study abroad
During your studies, you have the opportunity to do internships and semesters abroad in order to gain experience and learn the local language. In addition, you can join a double degree program and thus acquire two recognized academic titles at the same time. For this, you will also spend a certain amount of time studying abroad at that partner university. The university maintains worldwide contacts to universities and to a network of internationally active companies. There are cooperations with universities and institutes especially in Romania, France, and the USA.

Study semester at the University of Alabama
Students of every specialization of the Faculty can take up on the offer. The semester abroad is always scheduled in the winter semester (at UA: August 15 - December 20).
The modules taken at the University of Alabama are integrated into the curriculum and recognized for modules in the local Bachelor's degree program.
The lectures are given in English. Interested students should therefore have a good or very good command of English. A certificate of English language proficiency is not required.
Application deadline:
February 15, annually
Funding:
Students can apply for the Promos or the Baden-Württemberg scholarship at the HKA International Office. In addition, individual scholarships as well as Auslands-BAföG are available.
Costs:
Students are exempt from tuition fees at Alabama.
Accommodation:
During the semester abroad, students live in University of Alabama residence halls.
Exchange Semester at the LBL California
Students can take part in an exchange semester at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (LBL) in California. Students have the opportunity to do their internship semester or thesis at the LBL. Thus, they gain insight into ongoing research projects at the LBL and to work on exciting new topics themselves.

Double degree program at INSA Strasbourg
At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering & Information Technology you can also take advantage of the double degree program with the Institut National Des Sciences Apliquées (INSA) in Strasbourg. When graduating, you will obtain two academically recognized titles.
Prospective students can apply directly at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences after completing their Abitur or Baccalauréat. Good proficiency of German and French is a must. For the engineering diploma of INSA Strasbourg, a TOEIC certificate in English is also required, which is acquired in the course of studies. The Classe Préparatoire is not required.
The future engineers spend the first four semesters studying at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. During the so-called mobility phase, students spend two semesters (the fifth and sixth if they started in the winter semester) at the partner university INSA Strasbourg. Students must have earned 120 ECTS credits in order to be admitted to the third year of study at INSA. The usually mandatory internship semester (fifth semester) at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences is replaced by two summer internships. These are also recognized by INSA Strasbourg as mandatory internships.
The double bachelor program is concluded with a thesis at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences.

There are no tuition fees.
Funding:
The program is sponsored within the framework of the German-French University DFH-UFA.
Language of instruction:
Modules at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences are held in German, modules at INSA Strasbourg in French. The Bachelor’s Thesis is written in German.
