Study and work abroad

The Business Administration and Engineering program includes a six-month practical study semester (internship), which can be completed abroad. In the specialization "Purchasing and Sales", the semester abroad is obligatory.

In addition, students can study abroad for one semester at one of the partner universities. HKA maintains cooperations with 90 partner universities worldwide.

Those who combine both and spend an entire year abroad, and also learn another foreign language in addition to English, can earn their degree in the international option.

For those who wish to gain more extensive experience abroad, a dual degree program with the Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL) in Santa Fe, Argentina, and a dual degree program with the École d'ingénieurs (EPF) in Sceaux near Paris are available.

Internship semester abroad

Usually in the fifth semester, students undergo a six-month practical study semester (internship) in a company of their choice, which may be in a non-native country. They work in a typical engineering or business field and gain experience abroad, practical work experience, in-depth knowledge in an engineering or business field, and intercultural competence. During the internship semester, you will be coached by professors from the Faculty. In addition to personal and professional development, valuable contacts for the future can be made. The internship semester abroad outside the German-speaking area is an obligatory part of the specialization "Purchasing and Sales" of the study program Business Administration and Engineering.

Exchange semester abroad

For students of Business Administration and Engineering who would like to gain further experience abroad, we offer the possibility to complete an additional study semester abroad. The voluntary study semester abroad is carried out after completion of the basic studies. There are over 90 partner universities worldwide to choose from. Courses completed at the host university are credited at HKA (max. 30 ECTS credits). A variety of financial support is available for study abroad semesters, such as Erasmus+. A semester abroad allows you to expand your foreign language skills, gain intercultural experience, establish international contacts and grow as a person. This will make you particularly interesting for the job market.

Business Administration and Engineering International (Bachelor)

Students of Business Administration and Engineering can also choose an international study variant. This study option includes an internship semester and a study semester in a non-German speaking country, as well as learning another foreign language besides English to at least B2 level. The international option prepares students in particular for jobs in international companies. Due to the international orientation, you will acquire intercultural competence, expand your foreign language skills, international experience and be able to establish international contacts.

German-Argentine double degree program

The Business Administration and Engineering program can be studied as a dual degree program with an Argentine university. Students receive a Bachelor of Science from HKA and an Ingeniería Industrial degree from the Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL) in Santa Fe, Argentina. The first four semesters take place at Karlsruhe at HKA. Students spend the fifth to seventh semesters in Argentina, two of them as study semesters at UNL Santa Fe and one as an internship semester. The Bachelor's thesis is written in the eighth semester in Argentina or in Germany. The double degree program is sponsored by the German-Argentine University Center (DAHZ) . With a double degree you will gain extraordinary international experience, in-depth insights into a foreign country, through the internship also professional experience abroad, intercultural competence and grow as a person.

German-French double degree program

The Business Administration and Engineering program can be studied as a dual degree program with a private French Grande École. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from HKA and a Diplôme d’ingenieur from the École d’ingénieur-e-s (EPF) in Sceaux near Paris. For this, you will study at both HKA and EPF, one of the most prestigious cadre schools for engineers in France. In this program, you will spend the first four semesters of the Bachelor's program at HKA and then complete the fifth and sixth semesters at EPF as well as an internship semester in France. For the eighth semester, you will be back at HKA to write your Bachelor's thesis. You will go on to complete the first semester of studies in the Master's program at EPF and the second semester of studies in the Master's program at HKA. The third Master's semester is completed at EPF in the form of the "Projet de Fin d'Études" and by composing the Master's thesis. After eight semesters, HKA students in this program earn a Bachelor of Science degree. After another three semesters, they are then awarded the Master of Science degree from HKA, as well as the Diplôme d'ingénieur from EPF. With this double degree, you acquire the coveted German Master of Science degree and a special qualification for the job market, as well as the requirement for a doctorate. Your international experience will be boosted in a special way. The double degree makes you especially qualified for the international job market, and in addition you gain intercultural competence and develop your personality.
