StudiumPLUS
The StudiumPLUS model combines academic studies with practical work in a company. Throughout your entire studies, you receive a monthly salary. You can complete StudiumPLUS in two different formats:
1) StudiumPLUS Ausbildung (StudiumPLUS Apprenticeship)
StudiumPLUS Apprenticeship combines a bachelor's degree with vocational training within a company. In this model, you obtain two professional qualifications in just 4.5 years: a bachelor’s degree from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and a vocational qualification from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Industrie- und Handelskammer, IHK) or the Chamber of Trade (Handwerkskammer, HWK). StudiumPLUS Apprenticeship is available in selected and approved combinations.
2) StudiumPLUS Praxis (StudiumPLUS Experience)
StudiumPLUS Experience combines academic studies with extended practical phases in a company. Unlike the StudiumPLUS Apprenticeship model, you do not complete a formal vocational apprenticeship; instead, you gain practical skills through hands-on phases in the company, such as internships during semester breaks, a practical semester, and your bachelor’s thesis. StudiumPLUS Experience can be completed in all bachelor’s and master’s degree programs (except Architecture).
Structure
StudiumPLUS Apprenticeship
The program starts in September with a traineeship at the company. After a six-month practical phase the study phase begins in the summer semester: Students spend two semesters at the university. This is followed by a transfer back to the workplace for a further 6 months. During these first two years, students receive the basic vocational training and complete the basic studies at the university.Then the advanced studies begin and the students are at the university for two more semesters of studies. This is followed by the internship semester at the company and another study semester at HKA. The StudiumPLUS Apprenticeship program takes a total of four and a half years to complete, including the Bachelor's thesis, which is written at the company. Throughout the duration of their studies, students work in the company during the semester breaks.
StudiumPLUS Practice
StudiumPLUS Practice can be started in either the summer or winter semester. In addition to the practical components of the program—such as the practical semester (5th semester) and the bachelor’s thesis (7th semester)—students also work in their partner company during semester breaks. This allows them to become thoroughly familiar with work processes and responsibilities, independently pursue projects, and apply the theoretical knowledge gained during their studies. StudiumPLUS Practice is completed with the bachelor’s degree after the standard study period of 3.5 years.
Application
Applying for StudiumPLUS is easy — just follow these two steps:
1. Step:
The available positions are advertised by the partner companies of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. You apply directly to the respective company and conclude a StudiumPLUS contract and, if applicable, a training contract with them.
2. Step:
Afterwards, you apply for a study place at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences via the online application portal. Please note the application deadlines and admission requirements for your desired degree program.
Exception: In the degree program Construction Management & Operations, the application must also be submitted to the Construction Industry Association of Baden-Württemberg (Bauwirtschaft Baden-Württemberg e.V.).
