The interdisciplinary and integrative education in the technical and business areas, complemented by specialization, internship semester, and bachelor’s thesis to fit the students’ individual preferences, makes our graduates sought-after specialists both on the domestic and the international job markets.
The new specializations were designed specifically to familiarize the students at the Faculty of Management Science and Engineering during their studies with state-of-the-art subjects such as digitalization, AI, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and automation, ensuring they are ideally prepared for a career as creators with responsibility.
Especially in and around Karlsruhe there are many promising companies from the high-tech industry and the service sector, where our graduates are very welcome. Many students already get to know their future employer during their studies. Valuable contacts are often made during the time as working students, during the internship semester, or during a cooperative final Bachelor’s thesis project. Another point in favor of our graduates is their particularly high level of problem-solving skills.

A graduate talks about his experiences
Jonas Schrempp studied Business Administration and Engineering at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 2018. Since then, he has been working at CAS Software AG in Sales and Project Management.
(Please note: The Business Administration and Engineering degree program has been re-designed and will be offered with six specializations according to the new SPO as of summer semester 2024.)
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think back to Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences?
The first thing I think of is, of course, the people I met day after day in this place. Whether it was professors who tried to introduce us to new topics in challenging subjects, sitting in the atrium with fellow students poring over complex problems, or having a little chat over a game of foosball, it's all part of the atmosphere I associate with this place.
What were your professional goals during your studies?
Due to my previous training and work as an audiovisual media designer, I initially had the professional goal of getting a job as a product manager at one of the large camera technology manufacturers through my studies. Due to the breadth and practical orientation of the course, I kept coming up with new ideas and inspirations as I went along, which is why it became clear to me that I should first experience the practical side of things before moving too fixedly in one direction.
How did you fare in your job after graduation?
After graduation, I seamlessly moved on to start my career. As I had already been working for my current employer for two years as a working student and was writing my bachelor's thesis there, I was offered a direct entry as a sales consultant.
Why did you decide to study Business Administration and Engineering? On which subject did you focus on for your studies?
The industrial engineer is an all-purpose multitalent in the company. With his broad knowledge, he can communicate across subjects with all departments, and classify and process the needs. That appealed to me because I see myself more as a generalist and have a healthy curiosity wanting to shed light on complex topics.
I then chose Purchasing and Sales as my specialization, since proper communication with heterogeneous stakeholders, such as suppliers and customers, proved to be an important soft skill. In addition, the university's lab courses on the subject of sales prepared me well for my professional life.
Why did you decide to study at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences?
Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences had several points in its favor that lined up with my selection criteria. For example, the Karlsruhe region with its many "hidden champions" is very attractive for young professionals. Regarding the university in particular, aspects such as the range of courses and the various specializations played an important part in my decision. In the end, I was won over by the internship semester integrated into the studies and the practical relevance of the countless projects and cooperations between companies and the university.
Can you sum up your time at university?
During my studies as well as in my professional life, one thing has become clear to me: It is always better to be proactive than to have to be reactive. And if you do find yourself in the awkward position of having to react the only real alternative is to bite the bullet. I realized this by the many sleepless nights I had just before the exams.
