Opinion mongering on the web

How does opinion polling take place online? And how can that be evaluated? This topic is becoming increasingly explosive due to current issues

What is AlgStrOeff?

The functioning of the media is being greatly changed by information and communication technologies. The logic of mass media, which shaped the selection and dissemination of political information in the 20th century through unidirectionality and professional journalistic selection (news factors), is being supplemented or even replaced by the logic of algorithms, which is based primarily on individual preferences and habits of individual users or groups. Algorithmic media thereby select information for the user, in part also targeted to specific interests of users or operators. Information literacy is to be positively influenced by digital media, while at the same time negative consequences are to be avoided. To achieve these goals, the subproject provides a technical and fundamental survey environment embedded in digital media and mobile systems to conduct media research in an integrated and automated manner in field and laboratory environments in order to make opinion-forming processes digitally traceable for research in the future. In this way, media use and targeted, context- and user-specific selection are supported and media competence is maintained or expanded with optimized support based on study results.
