Collaborative study on digital ideation in product development

Product developers, product managers and all those involved in product development can still take part in the survey

February 8, 2021

The topic of "digital ideation" has become significantly more important due to the current pandemic-related situation and the increased collaboration of teams whose members work in home offices. Creativity processes used to thrive on the active and personal exchange of participants, for example via joint workshops - now these must largely take place via digital tools. However, in addition to the difficulties brought about by the sudden changeover, the potential of digital idea generation for a post-corona future is also becoming apparent.

In a joint study by the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences - Technology and Economics, the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO) and the IPEK - Institute for Product Development of KIT  the digital collaboration of teams during the idea generation phase in product development is now being investigated. The research focus of the study here is on the success-determining factors and methods for the digitally supported idea generation phase, as well as the consideration of the trust-creating aspects and digital "socializing" for the realization of successful creative processes in a team.

The basis for this study is an online survey conducted by Prof. Dr. Hendrik Rust and Tobias Brugger from the Faculty of Business and Economics at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences together with Katharina Dühr, Head of the Research Group Development Methodology and Management, IPEK/KIT, Nora Fronemann, Team Leader User Experience, Fraunhofer IAO, and Anne Krüger, Senior Researcher User Experience, Fraunhofer IAO.

The survey is aimed at product developers, product managers, employees of strategy departments, consultants and anyone involved in idea generation processes. Participation is still possible until 07.03.2021 at https://www.soscisurvey.de/Befragung_Digitale_Ideenfindung/. Upon request, participants will subsequently be provided with the results of the survey.
