Oliver P. Waldhorst erhielt die Abschlüsse Diplom-Informatiker im Jahr 2000 und als Dr. rer. nat. im Jahr 2005, beide von der Universität Dortmund. Er habilitierte sich im Februar 2011 an der Fakultät für Informatik des Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT). 

Oliver Waldhorst vertritt seit September 2016 das Fachgebiet Rechner- und Kommunikationsnetze an der Fakultät für Informatik und Wirtschaftsinformatik. Zuvor entwickelte er für die Daimler AG Kommunikationsarchitekturen im Bereich Connected Car (September 2013 - August 2016) und forschte am KIT (September 2006 - August 2013). Dort leitete er von August 2007 bis September 2011 eine Nachwuchsgruppe, die aus Mitteln der Exzellenzinitiative sowie aus Drittmitteln finanziert wurde. Während seiner Promotion arbeitete er als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Universität Dortmund (April 2000 - Dezember 2005) und nach erfolgreichem Abschluss als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Universität Leipzig (Januar 2006 - August 2006). Von September 2009 bis Februar 2010 besuchte er die University of Toronto als Visiting Researcher in der Gruppe von Prof. Jörg Liebeherr. Von April 2011 bis März 2012 vertrat er Prof. Andreas Mitschele-Thiel als Lehrstuhlleiter (W3) an der TU Ilmenau.

Oliver P. Waldhorst received the degrees of Diplom-Informatiker in 2000 and Dr. rer. nat. in 2005, both from the University of Dortmund. He habilitated at the Faculty of Computer Science of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in February 2011. 

Oliver Waldhorst represents the field Computer and Communication Networks at the Faculty of Computer Science and Business Information Systems since September 2016. Previously, he developed communication architectures in the area of Connected Car for Daimler AG (September 2013 - August 2016) and conducted research at KIT (September 2006 - August 2013). There, he led a junior research group from August 2007 to September 2011, which was financed by funds from the Excellence Initiative as well as external funding. During his PhD he worked as a research assistant at the University of Dortmund (April 2000 - December 2005) and after successful completion as a research assistant at the University of Leipzig (January 2006 - August 2006). From September 2009 to February 2010, he visited the University of Toronto as a Visiting Researcher in the group of Prof. Jörg Liebeherr. From April 2011 to March 2012, he replaced Prof. Andreas Mitschele-Thiel as Chair (W3) at the TU Ilmenau.
