After the student initiative "Healthy HKA" at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences won the competition of the Competence Center for Health-Promoting Universities last year, the students were now invited to present their initiative as part of a workshop at the 30th "Poverty & Health" congress in Berlin.
"We are proud that we were able to share our experiences and approaches in the field of health promotion with a broad audience," reports Lena Schramm from the initiative's board. At the conference in Berlin, the Karlsruhe students co-organized a workshop entitled "Health-promoting universities - successfully shaping student participation!", which provided a platform for discussing the importance of student participation in health management.
Successful health projects can also be created at technical universities
"Healthy HKA" has proven to be a prime example of successful, participatory approaches in health management. Our initiative not only inspires other groups at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences to launch new projects, but is also used nationwide as a model for the implementation of student health management," says Lena Schramm. This is particularly noteworthy, as such initiatives are often driven forward at universities with a strong connection to health study programs.
"We show that successful health projects can also be developed at technical universities. With the appropriate freedom due to the different technical background, completely new, innovative approaches can be developed," says Lena Schramm. Participation in this congress is a further step towards actively shaping and improving health promotion at HKA.
