Building Bridges: KMM in Aizu-Wakamatsu

From the 21st of January to the 28th of January, Master's students from KMM were at the partner university in Japan.

The ETLTC Conference 2024 took place in Aizu-Wakamatsu and students from Prof Ziegler's SIM course took part with their projects and associated presentations!

The ETLTC is a scientific conference that arose from cooperation with the University of Computer Science and Engineering in Aizu, the Communication and Media Management programme at HKA and other global partners. The aim is to combine different areas of media, information and communication technology. These areas are often isolated in practice but have many similarities in the technical, conceptual and pedagogical areas.

In addition to intensive work, the students also found time to experience the fascinating culture of Japan in private. From the majestic Asakusa Shrine in Tokyo to the interactive museum TeamLab – every corner offered a new perspective. Even in the bustling metropolis, the politeness of the Japanese and the cleanliness of the city remained unrivalled. After Tokyo, the students travelled on to Aizu-Wakamatsu, where their cooperation partner, the University of Aizu, was waiting for them. On arrival, all conference participants were warmly greeted with a welcome dinner. During their stay, the programme included an excursion to Tsuruga Castle, Lake Inawashiro and, of course, a trip to a sake brewery!

On 25 January 2024, our Master's students presented their work, all of which will be published as scientific papers in the conference proceedings:

  • Transforming Domain Data into Semantic Models for Content Delivery Applications
  • Implementing Semantic Correlation Rulesin the Domain of Energy Technology for Transportation Systems
  • Using DynaRules to Integrate Context Information in Semantic Correlation Rules for Intelligent Content Delivery
  • A Meta-Analysis on the process of how to understand Semantic Correlation Rules

Our students were able to gain many new experiences. They were able to engage in intensive dialogue with international students and academics on the topics of information management, media and communication and at the same time get to know the culture and people of different countries. It was an exciting time for our students in Japan.
