Why choose Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences for your studies?

I first had contact with the subject during my vocational training in the field of electrical engineering. I quickly realized that I wanted to delve further into the subject after my training. The complexity of the electronic devices around us has fascinated me since I was a child. Computers, game consoles, cell phones, whatever, I was fascinated by them. In order to further understand how they work, you need in-depth knowledge of programming and electrical engineering. You acquire this knowledge in the course of your studies. There is an accompanying laboratory for nearly every subject, where you conduct exciting experiments on your own to put the theoretical knowledge you have learned into practice. HKA has a reputation for offering practice-oriented studies, so it was an easy decision for me.

What do you like about studying at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology? What do you like about Electrical Engineering in general?

The more you learn about the subject the more amazing it is what mankind has achieved over time and what challenges we will still face in the future. The professors at our Faculty are very competent and also manage to go beyond the subject matter to arouse our interest in electrical engineering.

What was surprising for you in the first semesters of your studies? What was different from what you expected?

I was surprised by the strong increase in mathematics-heavy subjects in the early semesters. Students have to cram during the basic studies to get to a level of knowledge so that you don’t fall by the wayside in the further course of your studies. But as soon as you mastered the first 2 to 3 semesters things definitely become more relaxed.

What advice do you have for future students?

My advice to future students: absolutely get together with fellow students outside of your studies. It's much easier to grasp stuff in study groups and, of course, social life shouldn't fall by the wayside either. Karlsruhe's status as a "student city" is no coincidence; you get to know many like-minded people during your studies. Furthermore, you are sure to make friends that will last beyond your studies.
