Health insurance

Electronic Student Notification System (SMV)

General information

Under §199a SGB V there is, between health insurance companies and universities, a mutual obligation to inform regarding health insurance.

The health insurance companies report the following information to the university:

  • the insurance status (M10)
  • in case of a change of health insurance company: the start date of the insurance (M11)
  • the arrears in the payment of health insurance contributions (M12)
  • the settling of health insurance contributions in arrears (M13)

The university reports the following information to the health insurance companies:

  • a student taking up a study program and the date of enrollment (M20)
  • the expiration of the semester in which or with the effect of which the de-registration takes place (M30)

To implement these reciprocal reporting procedures, HKA will use the elektronische Studenten-Meldeverfahren (Electronic Student Notification System) as of 01.01. 2022 - reports in paper form can then no longer be accepted.

What does this mean for applicants?

We will require electronic notification of your insurance status from your health insurance company by the time of enrollment at the latest (M10).
Please contact your health insurance company in a timely manner so that they can send us the required electronic notification.
Please indicate our sender number H0002206 for this purpose.

Instructions for applicants who have private health insurance:

Please contact any statutory health insurance company and arrange for them to notify us that you hold a private insurance.
Please indicate our sender number H0002206 to the statutory health insurance company.

What does this mean for students?

Students who are already enrolled are not affected by the changeover at present. The changeover will only affect you if there are any changes to your health insurance.

Students who change their health insurance:

In order for the next re-enrollment to go smoothly, we will need electronic notification of the health insurance change from your new health insurance company (M11).
Please contact your health insurance company in a timely manner so that they can send us the required electronic notification.
