HySyn

Cross-border synergies for the development of the green hydrogen value chain

HySyn is a cross-border project led by the CCI Grand Est that brings together 26 partners in France, Germany, and Switzerland. The project aims to establish an industrial value chain for green and decarbonized hydrogen in the Upper Rhine region by connecting the following stakeholders:

  • Industrial companies
  • Research centers
  • Ports and logistics infrastructure
  • Local governments and public authorities

The project aims to develop the Upper Rhine into a European model region for green hydrogen technologies, capable of:

  • accelerate the decarbonization of industry and heavy-duty transport
  • strengthen industrial competitiveness
  • develop technologies that are produced and controlled in Europe

As part of the project, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences is working closely with the Port of Strasbourg. Together, they are analyzing the feasibility of establishing a hydrogen hub in one of the port areas of Strasbourg, Marckolsheim, or Lauterburg. To this end, potential local production, sales, and import options are being modeled under the port’s specific conditions, and the optimal supply infrastructure is being determined through techno-economic analyses. In addition, cross-border hydrogen transport to supply industry in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate is being taken into account. The goal is to provide targeted support to the Port of Strasbourg in its strategic decisions on the path to the hydrogen economy.

Students

Students have the opportunity to work on the project as part of their theses (Bachelor's, Master's) and as assistant students. If you are interested, please contact the project team.
