Energy System Analysis & Sustainable Financing
At the interface between research and practice, the "Energy System Analysis & Sustainable Financing" group develops solutions for the future energy supply.
To this end, techno-economic optimisations and simulations are designed and used to plan the deployment and expansion of energy supply systems. The methods used are mostly quantitative models that can be flexibly adapted to different issues.
Due to the massive need for investment along the entire value chain, financing options for the energy transition are analysed. This includes sustainable financing options via the capital market (e.g. green bonds) through to opportunities for citizen investment.
The group also analyses risks in the energy industry as well as the development of energy markets and the role of their players in the ongoing energy transition.
The research findings are used in particular to support decision-making by companies and politicians.
The methods developed by the research group for the analysis and optimization of energy systems are regularly published in recognized journals, and the associated software tools are made available to the public as open-source software.
