Research project "Consequences of warm utility costs"

An impact analysis of current and future heating costs for private households, energy suppliers and housing companies

In Germany, around half of all homes are heated with natural gas. The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and the resulting sharp reduction in the supply of Russian natural gas have driven up energy costs - especially for natural gas, oil and electricity - considerably. Compared to 2021, prices are currently significantly higher and represent a considerable burden for private households, energy suppliers and housing companies. The aim of the research project is to quantify these burdens for the affected groups, analyze their challenges and forecast future developments. Together with the RWI - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research, the project is therefore investigating the effects of the energy crisis and forecasting future end customer prices for central energy sources.
