The Institute for Intelligent Interaction and Immersive Experiences at the EFFEKTE science festival

The EFFEKTE science festival took place in front of Karlsruhe Palace on June 25 and 26, 2023. The event included an intelligent embodied agent and a social robot with which visitors could do fitness exercises, as well as the Super Nubibus 1834 virtual balloon ride. After stops in Karlsruhe (ZKM), Stuttgart (Code_N) and Gelsenkirchen (DIVR Science Award), the virtual balloon ride landed directly in front of Karlsruhe Palace, and not just in the digital representation.

"I am delighted that, despite the hot weather, we were able to get so many curious visitors interested in our teaching and research work on immersive virtual reality and intelligent systems. The festival offered visitors a great opportunity to experience the Karlsruhe research landscape up close. Many thanks also to the organization team, who provided us with cool water," said Institute Director Prof. Dr. Wölfel.

For the IIIX team, the festival not only offered the opportunity to exchange ideas with citizens, but also to evaluate the acceptance of and trust in the AI systems presented in a cross-section of society.

Some of the exhibits shown at IIIX were financed by third-party funds, while others were created in collaboration with students as part of project work and laboratory exercises. Further information on the projects can be found here:
