Corona test center on the campus of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences
Contribution to the Containment of the "Third Wave"

April 13, 2021
On the campus of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, a public Corona test station has been set up by the Congress Pharmacy in the outdoor area, the operation of which started Monday, April 12, 2021. There, free of charge, all citizens and thus also all members of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences can make use of the possibility of the 'citizen test'. By offering its location and logistical assistance, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences is thus making a social contribution to the fight against the coronavirus.
The testing offer is offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Available appointment windows will be adjusted based on demand and expanded to additional days accordingly. Approximately 30 tests can be performed per hour, so appointments are scheduled two minutes apart. Those tested will receive their test result conveniently on their smartphone after approximately 15 minutes.

"Of course, the testing station also serves all university members and especially our students. Corona testing is an important flanking measure in pandemic response. We recommend the tests for participation in the so important laboratory events, which are already well secured by high security measures," said the Rector of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frank Artinger, who has already personally taken advantage of the test offer.
"In order to contain the third wave of the corona pandemic, the so-called 'citizen test' has created a nationwide opportunity for all citizens to be tested for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus at least once a week free of charge. Our university strongly supports the 'citizen test' and has entered into a cooperation with the Karlsruhe Congress Pharmacy for this purpose," emphasizes Rector Frank Artinger.
The task spectrum of the universities was continuously extended in the last years. It is expected that universities, in addition to their core competencies in teaching and research, also provide impetus for topics that are currently occupying society. Classic manifestations of this 'third mission' of universities parallel to teaching and research are, for example, service and consulting for students, learning in socially relevant projects or lectures for the interested public. The new Corona testing station adds to this portfolio an extremely sought-after service for citizens in the medical field. It is also nice that the campus, which is actually a place of encounter and exchange, thus remains open to a reasonable number of people, at least for short visits, and that the numerous projects currently underway there in the areas of corporate design and sustainability are carried into the city by visitors.
