European perspectives: Insights from the INGENIUM Staff Week at Högskolan i Skövde in Sweden

In May, Europe takes center stage, and in celebration of this, we're excited to highlight a special opportunity for HKA employees to expand their networks and educational horizons across Europe through a Staff Mobility at one of our partner universities. Dr. Kajori Lahiri and Annette Knödler share insights from their experiences during their visit to Högskolan i Skövde in Sweden.

Högskolan i Skövde and HKA are partners in the INGENIUM European University. Currently, they are actively working on the establishment of a double degree programme within the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degrees in Mechatronic Engineering (EU4M). In this context and to explore further opportunities for cooperation, two staff members from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics visited their Swedish colleagues together with members of other INGENIUM partner universities.

During their stay, they gained insights into the activities and offers of various departments and schools while also exploring the university's state-of-the-art facilities, such as the library, laboratories, and the innovative "ASSAR Industrial Innovation Arena" meeting space. A dynamic exchange regarding workflows and processes took place among the European partners. Additionally, our staff seized the opportunity to showcase HKA and our programmes for students from Skövde.

Another highlight was the cultural excursion to Varnhem Monastery and the chance to observe the migration of 9000 cranes at Hornborgasjön. And, of course, who could resist indulging in the Swedish tradition of "fika*"?

"Overall, it provided an excellent opportunity to reassess one’s own challenges relating to work processes and also to learn about completely new topics," says Dr. Kajori Lahiri, reflecting on her experience. “I'm excited about the prospect of continued collaboration. Intercultural exchange and diverse perspectives enrich our programmes and we are looking forward to welcoming students from Sweden to our institution in the near future," adds Annette Knödler.

* Fika  is a Swedish tradition of taking a break to drink coffee and socialize, often accompanied by small snacks like pastries or cakes. This tradition is observed both in private settings and at work, providing an opportunity to relax, chat, and enjoy the moment.
