INGENIUM European University

International university alliance launched

Inauguration ceremony celebrated during the first "INGENIUM days" at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA)

June 19, 2023

Since the beginning of the year, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) has been a "European University". With funding from the European Commission and further support from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) from funds provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, as well as from the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the state of Baden-Württemberg, HKA will establish a European campus with its partners in Bulgaria, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Romania, Spain, and Sweden over the next four years, thus enabling smooth intra-European mobility of students, lecturers, and university staff. This mobility is to take place not only within the framework of new European study programs with integrated stays abroad, but increasingly also through summer or winter schools at the partner universities, i.e. short-term stays, in which students from the INGENIUM universities work together on certain topics from their different perspectives. The  INGENIUM European University kicked off last week during the first part of the 10 Days of INGENIUM at HKA, at the end of which the partners together planted a tree on campus.

HKA now made a first start with a "Junior Summer School", in which three students from each partner university, supported by mentors, dealt with the topics of language, culture and diversity. In addition to the summer school, the week's programme included meetings of the steering committee and various working groups of the alliance, which were attended by more than 40 colleagues from all nine partner universities. "Crossing Borders", HKA’s traditional study abroad fair, was also scheduled for this week in order to benefit from the presence of students from no less than nine European partner universities, all of them possible study abroad destinations for HKA students. The last of the five "INGENIUM days" coincided with HKA’s Open Campus day on Saturday, 17 June. On this occasion, both the results of the Summer School were presented and  the representatives of the nine European partners were available to the university community in a designated INGENIUM tent as contacts for possible joint projects.

Prof. Dr. Angelika Altmann-Dieses, HKA’s Vice-President for Academic and International Affairs, was excited about the exchange with colleagues from the alliance, in whose strategic orientation she herself plays a significant role, being a member of its Academic Council. “I am proud that HKA is hosting the first ever 'INGENIUM days' and thus offering students and staff of the 'INGENIUM European University' the opportunity to come together in Karlsruhe for the first, but certainly not the last time.”

This week, the "10 Days of INGENIUM" will be continued with a "Senior Summer School" for PhD students and Master students interested in doctoral studies at the Università degli Studi "G. d'Annunzio" Chieti - Pescara, for which the baton was officially handed over to students from Italy last Saturday.
