Yuliya Bessedin - Bachelor's in Industrial Automation and Power Engineering

What or who was able to support you in overcoming difficulties during your studies?

I am very proud that I had realized my dream goal - to study engineering at one of the best universities of applied sciences in Germany. Especially being a single mother with two children, a migrant background and a late starter, I didn't have the best chances for this. However, I have to thank a lot of people who accompanied me on this path.
This made me realize how important support and cooperation are. That is why I initiated the mentoring program "TeamUp" at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences together with Professor Closs. The primary goal is to provide timely support to students who have particular difficulties in their studies and to keep STEM subjects open to anyone who is interested.

In which industry are you working now, and what position do you hold?

Today, I work as a project planning engineer at Netze BW GmbH (EnBW). My responsibilities include monitoring the company's electrotechnical construction measures and projects, checking the conditions for the planned measures, communicating with internal and external partners, as well as project management and project control. The projects are in the area of cable, overhead line and street lighting measures.

Which qualifications acquired during your studies are particularly helpful for your professional life?

Everything can be important. Depending on the industry in which you will later work. Electrical engineering has many facets and at our university you can gain experience in the desired directions in the later semesters through the elective courses and also through internships and working student activities.

What advice do you have for future students?

Study hard, help other students and listen to tips from professors.
