Founded in 2006, the Institute of Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning and Environmental Engineering (IKKU) at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences has evolved into a leading research and transfer institute in the field of thermal systems and environmental technology. The institute traces its roots back to the pioneering research and transfer work of Prof. Valerius Füner and Prof. Johannes Reichelt. Today, IKKU is the largest institute at the Hochschule Karlsruhe, comprising 10 professors, more than 35 research staff, numerous students and a broad network of international partners. The institute secures over €2.5 million per year in third-party funding, reflecting its scientific impact and industry relevance.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, we invite research partners, alumni, students, friends of the institute and international guests to join us in honoring achievements, strengthening collaborations and discussing future challenges. We will also formally bid farewell to our esteemed colleague Prof. Michael Arnemann as he enters a well-deserved retirement.

Call for Short Statements

We invite partners, alumni, students and guests to submit a short statement:
What connects you with IKKU?
What makes the institute special for you?
How has your collaboration or experience been?

Please send your statement to: tunay.oezcan(at)h-ka.de

Participation Fee & Donation Information

Participation in our event is free of charge.

Instead of an admission fee, we would appreciate a voluntary donation to the Valerius-Füner Foundation.

The foundation promotes engineering education and continuing education in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning technology—including heat pump technology—at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. In addition, it contributes to securing and further developing the eponymous major in mechanical engineering and mechatronics in the long term. With your voluntary support, you will help to strengthen practical teaching, technical innovation, and the training of future specialists in the long term.

Donation options: You can donate by bank transfer. You can find the bank account details here
