Institute of Digital Materials Science
Master’s and Bachelor’s Theses, Project Offers, and Student Assistant (HiWi) Jobs at IDM
At the Institute of Digital Materials Science led by Prof. Britta Nestler, we offer a thematically and methodologically wide range of theses from various areas of materials science.
Are you looking for a practice‑oriented, research‑focused topic for a bachelor’s or master’s thesis – or a project assignment or HiWi position to deepen your profile? In our teams we provide a broad, method‑modern portfolio of thesis and project topics that can be tackled flexibly as a bachelor’s thesis, master’s thesis, project work, or HiWi task (the scope and supervision are arranged individually).
Our research fields combine materials science, mechanical engineering, physics, computer science, and mathematics and include, among others:
- Multiphysics modeling (mass and heat transport, mechanics, fluid‑flow processes, electrochemistry)
- Systematic simulation studies for the analysis of process‑structure‑property relationships
- Development of algorithms for the reconstruction and evaluation of image/measurement data
- Data analysis, including machine learning/AI
- Modern research data management
- Optimization and parallelization of numerical C/C++ solvers on high‑performance computers
You will work in an interdisciplinary team, receive personal supervision tailored to your field of study, and be able to choose a topic that is embedded directly in current research projects. Frequently we also offer additional, request‑specific topics.
