HKA provides strong impetus at RegioCOP30 Karlsruhe

November 26, 2025

The ten-day event series RegioCOP30 Karlsruhe - parallel to the 30th UN Climate Change Conference COP30 in Belém - successfully transferred the global climate goals to the regional level. As part of the group of organizers, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA ), together with fokus.energie, KIT, PHKA and the Institute for Resource Efficiency and Energy Strategies (IREES), brought together key players from the region to promote concrete measures for climate protection under the motto "Think globally - act in Karlsruhe".

The decentralized climate conference took place at four locations - KIT, PHKA, HKA and Lukaskirche - and attracted over 1,000 interested parties from civil society, science, business, politics, companies and administration. In the second week, HKA took on the role of host and offered space for lectures, discussion rounds, workshops, presentations by local initiatives, energy scouts and start-ups as well as formats on job profiles in the transformation and effective climate communication.

The initiators and co-organizers emphasized the importance of anchoring global climate issues regionally. The variety of topics, which covered the entire energy transition value chain, and the active participation of many local initiatives showed that Karlsruhe is already pursuing numerous concrete approaches.

At the closing event at Lukaskirche, the plans and recommendations for action developed during the two weeks were presented. The aim was to make future regional measures visible and to strengthen the resulting network beyond the conference. RegioCOP30 Karlsruhe thus made sustainable action tangible.

RegioCOP30 Karlsruhe is a joint project of fokus.energie e.V., Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Karlsruhe University of Education and IREES GmbH. The aim is to network players from science, business, administration and society and to promote concrete climate protection measures in the region.
