In September 2024, Dr. Alexander Graf has been appointed as Professor for Public Transit at Hochschule Karlsruhe, Germany. After studying Political Sciences, Sociology and Philosophy, the interest in Public Transit could be further strengthened by a Doctorate in the fields of urban rail transit systems. Besides the academic perspective, a long-term experience as head of department in a major public transit agency allows to integrate some valid pratcical experience into the course of the transport and mobility study fields.
Teaching
In terms of content and teaching, the focus is on analyzing, understanding and planning different types of public transit and mass transportation systems such as bus, tram, light railway, metro/subway or heavy railway systems. New forms and concepets of public mobility like On-Demand-solutions or integrated tram-/railway operation (TramTrain / “Karlsruhe Model”) also are being included. Apart from the classical planning and engineering approach, public transit also is being analyzed from the perspectives of Political Sciences, Participation or Marketing. In the fields of digitalization, a focus is set on various types of passenger information systems and applications.
