According to the EF English Proficiency Index 2025 study, which surveyed 2.2 million participants, Germany ranks fourth worldwide in terms of English language skills. Karlsruhe ranks even higher among cities: first place! On average, Karlsruhe residents have very high C1-level English skills. This corresponds to the fifth level of English proficiency in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (GER), a language level scale introduced by the Council of Europe.
This makes Karlsruhe particularly attractive for international students, for whom the HKA also offers degree programs taught entirely in English – a perfect platform for future engineers with an international background.
