Research knows no boundaries and the best ideas often emerge when different perspectives, disciplines and cultures come together. With the INGENIUM Joint PhD Programmes, the European University Alliance creates new pathways for international doctoral education and strengthens collaboration among its ten partner universities.
The current call invites researchers and academic teams to jointly develop new Joint, Double or Multiple Degree PhD programmes. The aim is to establish long-term research collaborations, develop joint supervision concepts and provide doctoral candidates with an international research environment with a European perspective.
International doctoral education
The planned programmes bring together the expertise of INGENIUM partner universities and offer doctoral candidates the opportunity to conduct research across borders, build international networks and benefit from diverse academic perspectives. The call particularly supports collaborations within the shared INGENIUM Research Ecosystems, including fields such as:
- Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence
- Wellbeing Health & Technology
- Earth and Planetary Sciences
These programmes create new opportunities for doctoral candidates to gain international research experience, expand their academic networks and become part of a growing European research community.
Developing PhD programmes across Europe
The call is aimed at professors, research groups and doctoral programme coordinators from INGENIUM partner universities who wish to jointly develop new international doctoral opportunities. The proposed programmes must involve at least three INGENIUM universities. Successful projects will receive support from INGENIUM in developing joint structures, international mobility opportunities and collaborative research activities.
The application deadline is 21 August 2026, 11:00 a.m. (CEST).
