Project "Bundling and Optimization of Study Suitability Diagnostics"

What is the aim of the project?

The aim of the project is to expand and further develop local study suitability diagnostics and to create the necessary central infrastructure for this purpose, thus bundling several procedures for optimal resource utilization. This approach builds on the two study aptitude tests already established at the university, namely the "Subject-Specific Competence Test" of the Faculty of Business and Economics and the university-wide "Pre-Knowledge Test Mathematics". The preliminary knowledge test in mathematics is to remain the central aptitude-diagnostic test instrument in the structural model for the study entry phase. In addition, for reasons of content logic and test economy, the largest possible common pool of tasks is to be created. The goal of these tests is to provide students and prospective students with information about their individual study aptitude and the study requirements of the university.

This individual aptitude assessment takes on an advisory function. The results are, on the one hand, an informed study (choice) decision and, if necessary, the further development of one's own entry requirements (e.g., using the various offers of the mathematics support "fit in mathematics" or learning centers). The offers of self-assessment on the basis of the tests, as well as the possibility of participating in the support offers just mentioned in the study entry phase, which is significant for the success of the study, enable on the one hand also students with less favorable entry prerequisites to study successfully. On the other hand, a form of self-selection takes place through the tests. In particular, departments with a high demand for study places and thus a large surplus of applications benefit from self-selection. In addition, self-selection reduces subject changes and dropouts.

Who is the project aimed at?

The target groups of the project are students, prospective students as well as all employees of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences who are interested in or already involved in study entry diagnostics. For the teaching staff, the project will create a university-wide central point of contact for study aptitude diagnostic questions and, in perspective, further assessments (e.g. concept inventories, mock examinations, semester-accompanying preliminary examinations, questionnaire procedures)

Funding

The project is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg within the framework of the Fonds Erfolgreich Studieren in Baden-Württemberg (FESt-BW), funding line 4 "Aptitude and Selection" under reference 22-0421.918-4/1/1.
