HKA Learning Centers

The common goal of the learning centers is to support you in answering your individual questions and problems in the areas of mathematics and electrical engineering. HKA thus complements the various different teaching and learning formats at undergraduate level. The Learning Centers for Mathematics belonging to the faculties and the inter-faculty Electrical Engineering Center H.ErT.Z are happy to support you in your independent learning. You are welcome as an individual or together with your learning group!

H.ErT.Z – University-wide Electrical Engineering Center

Is electrical engineering in your undergraduate curriculum? Does electrical engineering look like mathematics to you and would you like to know where the technology is hidden? Do you need support in understanding course content or exercises? Then the H.ErT.Z Center is the right place for you! Here you will be able to find your path to electrical engineering in a variety of ways.

You will be supported in answering your theoretical questions via individual or small group consultations in the H.ErT.Z Learning Center. These take place both in presence and online. To promote your problem-solving ability, this support is provided according to the principle of minimal help.

If you want to understand electrical engineering in a practical way, the H.ErT.Z LivingLab offers you a space to do so. In this free laboratory, basic experiments that promote understanding can be set up or your own ideas can be implemented. After discussing your wishes and clarifying a date, the room is available to you with or without accompaniment.

H.ErT.Z online promotes your self-study via various digital learning formats. These include electronic exercises in Ilias or interactive scripts, instructional videos and applications on an associated platform.

H.ErT.Z (University-wide Electrical Engineering Center) is funded by the state of Baden-Württemberg and arose from the funding lines "WILLE – Learning and Teaching Science" and "Teaching and Learning Laboratories".

Learning Center for Mathematics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (EIT)

The Mathematics Learning Center of the EIT Faculty offers support for the mathematics lectures as well as for general questions with mathematical background. In addition to regular tutorials in HM1, exam preparation courses or basic courses are offered upon request. In addition, daily consultation hours are held, which can be attended in an unbureaucratic and spontaneous manner. With all of our support options, we emphasize that these are peer-to-peer offers, where motivation, activation and encouragement are the top priorities.

MAFFIN – Learning Center for Mathematics at the Faculty of Information Management and Media (IMM)

Mathematics is hard – it is mostly first-year students of the IMM Faculty who think that, but even in the higher semesters many a mathematical question comes up. That is why MAFFIN (Mathematics Support for Information Management and Media) supports students with mathematical problems of all kinds: from basic mathematics such as exponent laws to differential equations. Everyone is supported at their own level. Graduate mathematician Jochen Schröder and a competent team of tutors look after students almost all day, five days a week, and students are happy to take up the offer. Pre-registration is not necessary; everyone is welcome there.

The bright room of the learning center in Amalienstraße, room A004, offers students learning space and a pleasant learning atmosphere. MAFFIN offers the opportunity to solve exercises alone or in groups, to review lecture material or simply to talk about mathematics. If questions arise, the MAFFIN team is available to help.

Let's listen to what freshmen have to say about MAFFIN: "It's a super opportunity to catch up on stuff, like polynomial long division – I never liked that in school." "MAFFIN is great for study groups. We are educated not to be lone wolves." "I think MAFFIN is a great idea for students. When you have questions about different mathematical topics, Jochen Schröder takes the time for you to understand the problem and also explains the questions in a very understandable way. Simply super, this facility. :-)" "Mostly open, good (technical) contact point for students at a loss."

MAFFIN has an ILIAS group. First log in to ILIAS and then confirm the following LINK:

If you have problems with joining the group, please contact Jochen Schröder by e-mail:  jochen.schroederspam prevention@h-ka.de

Or you can just drop by! The MAFFIN team is looking forward to your visit!
