Campus Card

Information regarding the Campus Card/student ID card

What is the Campus Card?

The Campus Card is your multipurpose student ID.

Where do I get the Campus Card?

To get the Campus Card, please contact the Student Registry in building R.

How do I use the Campus Card?

You will use the Campus Card during the entire duration of your studies. Therefore, use it with care. You should always store it in a safe place. By following these simple precautions the card will stay in good working order for a long time :

DO NOT bend or apply heavy pressure

DO NOT subject to heat, cold or radiation (e.g. microwave)

DO NOT dirty or use when dirty

The Campus Card is used as

Plastic money (student canteen and building A, ground floor)

In order to charge the campus card with credit please use the equipment available in the student canteen or in the cafeteria. Please note that you need to use the charging point in the student canteen to charge your card for the first time.

Library card

The campus card is used as a library card at the HsKA Academic Library. Before using this service you need to have the card activated, unless this has already been done at the KIT Library. For this, please fill out the “Erstanmeldung” form and then contact the Information Desk. For further information please see the pages of the Academic Library.

Ticket for local transport

The Campus Card also serves as semester ticket of Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund KVV from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. The ticket is valid for the entire day on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. In addition to the Campus Card, you need to carry the KVV attestation. This is available for download under Online-Service2 (Studentische Selbstverwaltung).
You can buy an extension to full semester ticket service at the KVV service centers.

Which data is stored on the Campus Card?

The picture of the card holder, the student's name, the student's ID number, the student's degree program, the validity, the KVV ticket and the GID is printed on the card surface.

The Mifare-Chip carries the mifare serial number, GID, the university code, the PIN, the monetary value, and other data and content. 

Mifare serial number: 4 Byte Integer

GID (global ID): 8-digit sequential identification code

University code: "6760” identifying Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences

PIN: 5-digit confidential key

Monetary value (student canteen): 2 sectors with the amount, group, administrative data, purse number, and secret key

Group: Student

Administrative data: Code, here Student Services Karlsruhe

Purse number: 7-digit unique key

Replacement if your Campus Card is lost or broken

P lease contact the Student Registry if your Campus Card is lost or broken. Please specify your student ID number. In order to issue a replacement, there is a fee of 5 Euros.  If the card is broken, please hand it in to receive new card.
The card will be replaced free of charge unless the defect is due to improper use.

In order to restore the monetary value stored on your broken/lost Campus Card please contact the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe (Student Services), Adenauer-Ring 7 (KIT).
