University Rankings

Top positions in university rankings

University rankings can be helpful in orientation when choosing a university or a course of study. At least, that's how many applicants see it, according to a survey conducted regularly among first-year students at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. In addition to "quality of education" and "field of study," the rankings are a decisive reason for choosing a university for more than 40 percent of those surveyed. In 2020, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences was again able to achieve excellent results in important university rankings.

CHE Master Ranking, November 2020

Anyone who wants to follow up a bachelor's degree with a master's degree is faced with a wealth of offers and the question of which is the most suitable. The ranking of master's degree programs is intended to support applicants in making the right choice for them. The current issue of "ZEIT CAMPUS" appeared in magazine stores on December 1, 2020 with a new ranking of master's programs in economics, in which the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE) compares the study programs according to up to 13 different criteria, depending on the subject.

In the current ranking, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences is able to achieve excellent placements in Business Administration, in which it is represented with the two Master's programs International Management and the Tricontinental Master in Global Studies: Here, it achieves placements in the top group no less than three times, namely in the categories "Organization of Studies," "Transition to Master's Studies," and "Graduations in a Reasonable Time." In this category, it also achieves a place in the top group with the Master's programs in Business Information Systems and Industrial Engineering.

European U-Multirank, June 2020

U-Multirank is a multidimensional, international university ranking in which around 1,700 universities from 92 countries participated this year. It has been conducted since 2014 and is funded by the EU. Once again, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences achieved top scores in this year's ranking in terms of internationality, research, embedding the university in the region and, for the first time, in the knowledge transfer category. A total of seven top marks in these categories, as well as three additional good ratings in the categories of internationality and teaching and learning, show that the university is on a very good path in achieving its strategic goals.

CHE University Ranking, May 2020

Every year, one third of the subjects are re-evaluated in the CHE University Ranking. In 2020, HKA was represented with its study programs in business informatics and industrial engineering. Each of these study programs was able to achieve multiple placements in the top group:

Business Informatics
According to the current ranking, which also takes into account the judgment of students, this program achieved a place in the top group in each of an impressive four categories: in the overall result of support at the beginning of studies, in completion in a reasonable time in both the bachelor's and master's programs, and in contact with professional practice (bachelor's).

Industrial Engineering

The Industrial Engineering and Management program also reached the top group in four categories: in the overall result of support at the beginning of studies, in graduation in a reasonable time (Master), in international orientation (Bachelor), and in contact with professional practice (Bachelor).

Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences achieved top results in 2019 in six other study programs, which were consistently confirmed to have excellent contact with professional practice and orientation. In the Architecture program, students were also particularly impressed by the general study situation, the teaching support and courses offered, the degrees awarded in a reasonable time in the Bachelor's and Master's programs, and the spatial situation. The latter was also attested to civil engineering and its spatial situation was praised. Electrical engineering and information technology received top results for the support provided at the start of studies and especially for the international orientation of the master's program. Automotive Engineering scored top marks for its internship lab facilities, support at the beginning of studies, international orientation, and in attracting research funding per professor. The mechanical engineering program received outstanding ratings for its support, courses, organization of studies and examinations, support for studying abroad, IT infrastructure, equipment of the internship labs, support at the beginning of studies, international orientation in the master's program, acquisition of research funds per professor, and the general study situation - in all these categories, mechanical engineering at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences received top ratings. And in mechatronics, too, the students were particularly impressed by the range of courses offered, the support at the start of studies, the equipment of the internship laboratories, as well as the appropriate completion time and international orientation in the master's program.

Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences also achieved a top result in 2018 with its computer science courses. A ranking in the top group was achieved in four out of five central evaluation categories. The students particularly appreciated the general study situation and the support provided by the lecturers and also highlighted the study organization, the career orientation offerings and the IT infrastructure. Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences was also in the top group for the number of degrees awarded within a reasonable period of time. The study programs also ranked in the top group in terms of contact with professional practice.

With more than 300 universities examined and more than 120,000 students surveyed, the CHE University Ranking is one of the most comprehensive and detailed rankings in the German-speaking world. In addition to facts about studies, teaching, facilities and research, it also takes into account students' assessments of the study conditions at their university.

WirtschaftsWoche Ranking, April 2020

For the WirtschaftsWoche 2020 ranking, 590 HR managers from companies were asked which universities they prefer to recruit employees from - in other words, which universities provide the best training for their companies' needs. Among Germany's universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen), HKA ranked as follows:

  •     Industrial Engineering: 3rd place
  •     Computer science: 4th place
  •     Electrical engineering: 4th place
  •     Information Systems: 5th place
  •     Mechanical Engineering: 7th place

With these top rankings, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences can continue its excellent results of the past years and is one of the four best universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen) nationwide!
